About the school
TASIS - Switzerland is the oldest American private school in Europe, situated in the italian region of Switzerland, in the Southern region Ticino. Founded in 1956, the school takes the responsibility of preserving and passing on the heritage of the global cultures: the past creations, achievements, traditions and goals that give a purpose to the present and hope to the future.
Students from over 50 nationalities study here, the highest percentage coming from European countries and the USA. Graduates continue their education at elite universities worldwide.
The campus is situated on the slopes near the village of Montagnola, where one can enjoy a panoramic view of Lake Lugano. The architecture of historic buildings is in perfect harmony with picturesque mountain landscapes, the most impressive building being "Villa de Nobili", named after the Nobby's Marchiz, the Italian ambassador in Switzerland. This building hosts the school administration, canteen, some of the bedrooms and experimental science lab. The whole school complex was built taking into account the evolution of needs and requirements of operation and comfort. The Monticello and Palestra buildings together with the library form the central part of the campus. Here is the computer lab, the music room, a dance studio, the gym, and some of the classrooms and sleeping rooms. The campus comprises 25 buildings dating back to the 17th century.
TASIS owns seven dorms where the students are placed according to age and gender. Each dorm is a stand-alone community where meetings, discussions, film screenings and other social activities take place. All students participate twice a week in various social activities and charity actions in order to develope leadership and responsibility skills.
Age of students: 3-19 years
Age of boarders: 12-19 years
Total number of students: 700
Number of students in the pension scheme: 250
The sport activities are compulsory for all students and take place twice a week. The students can be a part of the rugby, football, voleyball, swimming, athletism or golf team and participate to different competitions between Italian and Swiss schools. Also, they can choose to practice yoga, fitness, horse riding, squash, jogging, softball and basketball.

The Fine Arts Department of the school encourages students to find their own "voice", regardless of discipline. They can choose from over 20 options in the visual arts, music and theater fields, ranging from photography to architecture, drawing and painting. Annually, the Spring Arts Festival is organized to celebrate the creativity of students in the TASIS community through exhibitions, theater productions, musical recitals, etc.
