Leysin American School (LAS) was founded in 1960 by Fred and Zigfrid Ott and is one of the main international schools in Switzerland. The main mission of the entire teachers staff is to educate the youth in the spirit of innovative thinking, the formation of strong characters, developing a sense of fairness and interest in the issues of society, responsibility in decision-making, defending their views, tolerance for different cultures and respect for others opinions.
Many of the graduates are admitted to prestigious universities such as Harvard, Cornwell, Yale, Princeton, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford, University of California, Pennsylvania, Edinburgh, St. Andrew's, Manchester and others. Each year, LAS teaches students from over 50 countries, most in the US, other nationalities representing about 8% of the total number of students. Drawing on traditions, the school looks into the future with faith that its students are future world leaders.
The school consists of 10 buildings and is located in the French part of Switzerland, in the famous winter resort of Leysin, situated at 1300 m altitude and with a splendid views of the Rhone. Geneva is only an hour and a half away by car, and there are convenient transport links for the biggest cities, Montreux and Bern Laussanne. Students have access to classrooms for science experiments, computer room, wireless internet, library with multimedia concert hall, studio design center for visual arts, gym multifunctional fitness center and squash court, medical center etc.
Accommodation
The school has 6 campuses, 3 for girls and 3 for boys, a spacious dining room, a recreation center for students. Students are accommodated in double and triple rooms with telephone and internet, individual bathroom and terrace overlooking the surrounding mountain ridges.
