Short history and description
Brentwood College was founded in 1923 in Brentwood Bay. The first generation of students counted 50 boys, and 4 teachers. The school quickly became known as a center of excellence for both its academic and sports results. In 1947, a fire destroyed the campus, but the school was rebuilt on the other side of Brentwood Bay in 1961 and in 1972 became the first school in Canada that accepts both boys and girls. Today, Brentwood is one of the best boarding schools in the world with a modern campus and joint programs that prepare students for admission to university. In 2013- 2014, 468 students from over 30 countries will take part in the program developed by Brentwood, integrated into a close community, where relationships are formed for life. The school`s motto is "The manu in manum", illustrating the school`s mission to become a center for educating the leaders of tomorrow, respecting the principles of integrity, enthusiasm, respect and academic excellence.
The school has similar characteristics to a college so graduates will already be familiar with campus life when they get to be students. School buildings are built following the principles of sustainability and campus covers an area of 200,000 m2. "Crooks Hall", the new center for students, is an environmentally friendly building with LEED Gold certificate, overlooking the ocean. Here students have a laundry, they can meet between each other or their parents or find news. At Brentwood students have the opportunity to take advantage of the beautiful British Columbia natural environment to complete their studies: can dive in the ocean during courses of marine biology and oceanography, can attend kayaking courses, canoeing and other water sports in the sports program or can develop their artistic side leaving them inspired by the nearby mountains and forests.
Accommodation
Brentwood College students are accommodated in 8 homes, 4 of them for girls and 4 for boys, each of which becomes a home away from home for school's students. Most of the rooms are double.
Extracurricular activities
Brentwood students have many artistic clubs, student associations and sports activities such as basketball, hockey, rugby, football, tennis, volleyball, yoga, swimming, golf, snowboarding, etc. Older students take part in organizing social events such as weekly dance nights, barbecues, excursions and other activities designed to offer new experiences to all colleagues.
