About the school

Box Hill School was funded in 1959, being one of the Round Square founding schools. Round Square is an international association of schools reunited under the conviction that young people need to prepare for life through direct confrontation with it in a school environment that provides the necessary support and challenges. The Round Square principles (Internationalism, Democracy, Environment, Adventure, Leadership and Volunteering) are the pillars of the school, so it is its goal that each student develops harmoniously through academic, cultural, physical and spiritual experiences.

Box Hill School occupies a 40 acre area in the heart of Mickleham Village, in the spectacular British countryside of Surrey County, just 40 minutes from the center of one of London's most effervescent metropolis.

Accommodation

The school has 6 houses where students are accommodated, depending on age and gender. Most of the houses have been recently renovated. Box Hill encourages each pupil to contribute positively to the school community, to celebrate cultural diversity, to respect others, and always keep in mind the school's internal rules.

Sport and activities

Sport: sport is an important part of education in the school's perspective. Its most important sports are: basketball, cricket, soccer, hockey, netball, rugby, swimming, cross.

Arts, music and theater: more than a quarter of the students play at least one musical instrument, and some of them study even two instruments. The activities take place in the newly built music school. Arts are available for study as a subject both for A-Levels and IB. Students interested in creative arts have the opportunity to study at famour universities such as UAL, Instituto Marangoni. Speech and theater classes are available for everyone who is interested. The students prepare two productions each year.

Activities and adventure: students in year 7, 8 and 9 can take part in exchange programs organized by Round Square that take place in Europe, South Africa, Australia, Southern America, India, or Canada. The trips are an integral part of the curriculum during the first 3 years (Y7-Y9) as they play an important role in helping students develope practical skills and self-trust. Duke of Edinburgh Award is also extremely popular amongst the students. Regarding the daily activities, students can practice team or individual sports, have their own rock band, practicecanoe or archery.
